The only quality that notably differentiates it from any other stone is that it's used in steel production. Actually, items made from flux stone have a 2x value multiplier added to them. I wouldn't waste marble on constructions either. As others have already mentioned, it is a flux stone.

WebCopper is heavier than steel. It completely matters, just like weapons. I don't have the exact wiki guide, but a steel (or candy) shield is much more likely to protect a dwarf more than some wooden elf shield. For blunt weapons ( hammers, maces, etc...), I believe the best material is steel because of weight.
