Extrusion is used for mass production of precision tubes and shapes for thermocouple and heater components. QUALITY WebbAluminum added to MgO-C refractories reacts with carbon to form Al4C3 during heating. Since it hydrates as the bricks are cooled, it causes the collapse of the refractories during reheating. The defect can be overcome by the use of Al8B4C7.
